When planning your SWB Kombi setup, one of the first things to consider is space. With factory-fitted seats in place, you typically have around 1400mm of usable space in the rear of a short wheelbase Kombi (and 1800mm in a long wheelbase).

We build our storage and bed units in two main height options: 406mm and 480mm – and the right choice depends on how you want to use your van:

• 406mm high units are ideal if you want to keep the flexibility of removing or refitting your seats. This is our standard setup and works well for day-to-day versatility.

• 480mm high units are a better option if you plan to fold the seats forward and use them to extend your bed length. We recommend pairing these with our custom upholstery for a comfy, full-length sleep setup.

Just a heads-up: while the 480mm option gives you more bed length, it does reduce head height — something to keep in mind if you’re over 6ft tall.

Option 1: Flexible, Full-Length Setup with Seat Options

In this popular setup, we’ve paired our 1400mm Torridon bed unit with a 400mm extension box, giving you a full-length bed while still keeping the flexibility to swap seats in and out.

It’s ideal if you want to:

• Keep the single rear seat in place for carrying an extra passenger

• Remove the double bench when it’s not needed

• Still enjoy a full-length bed setup with plenty of storage

• Use a kitchen pod when the double seat is out (note: the pod needs to be removed when refitting the double bench)

This layout is a customer favourite for its versatility — whether you’re heading off for a weekend adventure or just need a practical daily driver, it gives you both.

Our Torridon unit is designed to create a full length bed setup making the most of your available sleeping and living space. The Torridon usually lives on the driver side at a standard length of 1800mm (1400mm in a SWB kombi) and height of 406mm (480mm if you want to use with folded over seats), this is essentialy your main bed unit which pulls out sideways into the van from sofa to bed mode. Technically it can live alone in the van as single bed but adding the Clachan allows a full width setup.
