Leogang delivered the highs, Lenzerheide delivered the lessons #MTB.

After a good few days of lapping in Schladming, we left for the third round of the World Cup in Leogang.

The morning after we arrived in Leogang, it started raining heavily, which didn’t stop for a majority of the weekend. By the time track walk came around, the track was very wet and slippery, which made things interesting. As soon as I got down for track walk, I began putting big mud tyres and mudguards on my bike, ready for practice the following day.

The first practice day was really good; I felt comfortable on the bike and the conditions and felt ready for qualifying the next day. It rained a fair bit that evening, which would make the track faster as the mud gets more watery.

Qualifying day was really good; with some solid practice in the morning, I was ready for my qualifying run.

By this point, the sun had come back out and made the track really sticky with thick mud, which is tricky to ride.

My run was pretty good with a few mistakes that cost me a fair amount of time, but it was enough to make my first World Cup final as I finished P17; the top 20 qualify. I was so stoked I qualified, but I knew I made some mistakes and had room to improve.

Finals day was a really cool experience with all the fans and the vibe at the top of the hill. Practice in the morning was interesting; a lot of rain as we started, but it passed over by the end of the practice session, which was nice as the track wouldn’t change too much between the last practice run to my finals run.

Dropping in for my finals run, I was pretty excited as there were loads of fans at the top cheering out the start gate and cameras everywhere. I was having a real good run until I crashed in one of the corners. But I was still pretty happy as it was my first final, so just learning the process. I ended up P14, which I was stoked with, but also gutted I crashed, as my run was pretty good other than that.

Immediately after the race in Leogang, we headed to Lenzerheide in Switzerland for the next round the following weekend.

Lenzerheide is a really cool place, so I went on a few e-bike rides to explore a little bit the days coming up to the race. However, in hindsight, it wasn’t a good idea as I was pretty tired throughout the whole weekend, so I really struggled to ride properly. Which resulted in one of the worst runs I’ve had on a bike for my qualifying.

Unfortunately, no finals the following day. I was pretty frustrated with myself as I have made this mistake before; however, I know what I did wrong.

After the race, we went to Morzine to chill out a bit and get some laps in. Which was really good! Feeling ready for the next race in La Thuile this coming weekend! This track looks really good and similar to the tracks we were riding in Morzine. 🤙
