iNSTALL PREP INFO

before you arrive

Prior to your install here at the farm, we want to make sure you have all the information available to complete the nessecary prep work.

please read through all the info below and if you have any questions please drop us an email.

we've split it up into sections depending on what extent of works your van is being treated to.

Please take the time to read through the below install prep for your specific van.

as a general rule of thumb we recommend battons first, sound deadening second, insulation, then carpet work last. this ensures best coverage and prep of all stages.

After you have completed this prep work we ask for some photos of your van so we can breif the intallers prior to your arrival on exactly what to expect.

If your van isn't quite ready please send images any way with a follow up email stating what works are going to be carried our prior to your arrival at the farm.

  • Photo from rear tailgate/barn doors

  • Photo from passenger sliding door

  • Exterior image (showing the entire van)

You can send us these images by clicking the submit images button

floor

If you are getting a floor installed by us, we ask that you prepare the floor as follows:

To allow us to properly secure your floor, we ideally need 12mm battens bonded to the floor using Pink Grip, Sikaflex, or a similar adhesive. These should be installed in as many locations as possible, as shown in our example images, positioned in the troughs of the ribbed van floor.

We recommend laying strips of 12mm-thick battens bonded to the metal floor (see image below), followed by 2mm Dodo Mat sound deadening between the battens. On top of that, you can layer 7mm Dodo Mat Pro Liner adhesive insulation. When applying the Pro Liner, please mark the positions of the battens underneath with masking tape—this helps our installers significantly on the day.

Areas to Note:

  • Keep the first 50mm from the sliding door(s) clear of any battens, sound deadening, or insulation. Our floor runs and finishes close to this area, so we want to avoid anything unsightly poking out.

  • At the rear doors, leave at least 50mm clear of the door latch mechanism and the spare wheel lowering mechanism. This clearance applies to battens, sound deadening, and insulation.

Points to Note:

  • For your carpet work on the walls and wheel arches, please extend the carpet onto the floor by approximately 50mm all the way around. More coverage in these areas is beneficial for our fitting team.

  • When carpeting the rear light cluster pillars, you can either stop where they meet the floor or continue around and over the rear of the floor, as shown in the example images.

In the images below, we’ve included examples of good preparation, as well as a van with a fully installed floor, walls, and ceiling to show you what will be visible after we complete this stage of the install.

Why Don’t We Do This for You?

The bonding and sealing of battens require time to set, which would extend the overall timeframe for your van installation. This means we wouldn’t be able to complete your project in just one day.

Check out our image examples for the ideal amount of prep work. Battens are fitted, insulation is added over the top, and the positions of the battens are marked with tape. We love seeing prep work like this!

roof

If you are having a ceiling installed by us, please read the following:

Our ceilings need to stop at a specific point. Therefore, we recommend extending your carpet work 150mm to 200mm from where the walls meet the ceiling. For the front section of your Transit Custom, the plastic cable trim can remain in place. Our roof panels are designed to fit around this, and carpeting underneath and through onto the roof creates a very tidy finish.

Sound Deadening and Insulation:

We mount our ceiling panels directly to the rib structures of your van’s roof. This means the areas in between these ribs can be sound deadened and insulated. However, your ceiling will now sit at the lower level of the ribs, so please avoid packing excess insulation into these areas. While not essential, you may also want to carpet over the ribs for a neater appearance.

Front Section Trim Panel:

At the front section where the roof meets the cab headliner, we offer a lovely trim panel to cover this unsightly area. This can be included as a separate item in your order or added as an extra on the day.

Wiring for New Lights:

If you are installing wiring for us to connect your new lights, please leave a long tail around the front of the ceiling and route cables down through the pillar plastic.

Check out our image examples for the ideal amount of prep work, as well as examples of installed ceilings, so you can see what will be left exposed.

walls

If you are getting our walls fitted, please read this section about the prep work required before you arrive at the farm.

Sound Deadening and Insulation:

Sound deadening can be applied to the walls of the van in all areas of the outer skin. Insulation can be placed in all open areas that will be beneath our walls.

Our walls are fitted directly to the rib structure of the van, so please avoid overpacking these inner areas. Do not insulate over the inner faces of the ribs — carpet in these areas is fine, but insulation is not.

Carpet:

Some areas of the walls will remain visible after our panels are fitted and should be carpeted. These areas include:

  • B-pillars

  • C-pillars

  • Window surrounds

  • Rear light cluster uprights

  • Rear cross beam above the rear doors

For the sliding door, our panels are inset type, meaning the outer shell of the door will remain visible. Some customers choose not to carpet the sliding doors; this is entirely up to you. The same applies to the back doors—most customers opt to sound deaden and insulate these instead of carpeting.

Transit Custom Rear Barn Door Panels:

These panels are usually full-height, but we can provide kidney infills on request. If there is another reason to use kidney infills, we will discuss it with you on the morning of the install. For sound deadening and insulation on barn doors and tailgate models, please keep these to the inside top and lower sections.

Check out our image examples to see the ideal amount of prep work. We've also included images of vans fitted with our walls to show which areas are left exposed at the edges and how to finish them.
