FINGER STRENGTH TRAINING CHALLENGE
What are they?
Each trainer is a mono finger ring with a paracord lanyard.
The hole is sized to fit one finger (usually index) — snug, comfortable, and smooth on the skin.
Think of it as:
-
A portable hangboard
-
A travel-friendly finger torture device
-
A great way to level up finger strength without needing a wall
How do you use it?
…and the Ply Guys Longest Hang Challenge
Can you beat our Richy?
We’ve been running an entirely unofficial, purely-for-bragging-rights longest hang challenge in the workshop — and it turns out this thing is way more addictive than expected.
The rules are simple:
Basic hangs – this is where the “comp” lives
• Use both – one for each hand
• Put your fingers (index is a good place to start) through the hole
• Hang with feet off the floor
• Time starts when your finger takes the load
• Time ends when you drop (no heroic flailing counts)
💪 Enter your best time on this page and see how you stack up on the Ply Guys Leaderboard.
No prizes. No sponsors.
Just eternal glory, mild forearm pump, and the quiet satisfaction of beating Richy.
Progressions
-
Switch fingers
-
Add time under tension
-
Alternate hands / fingers
-
Use only one instead of two
-
Add weight only if you really know what you’re doing
Where to hang them
-
Over a pull-up bar
-
Over a beam or branch
-
Anywhere solid that won’t move (or explode)
-
Use slings and carabiners if required
⚠️ Important: Start easy. Finger tendons adapt slowly. Warm up properly and stop if anything feels sketchy.
Why birch plywood?
Because it’s:
-
Strong
-
Lightweight
-
Smooth on skin
-
Sustainable
-
And what we already use to build proper campervans for outdoor folk
These trainers are made in the same workshop as our van interiors — cut, sanded and finished with the same care. They’re small, but they come from the same mindset: build things that get used, abused, and taken on adventures.
Who are we?
We’re primarily a campervan conversion company, designing and building vans for climbers, surfers, bikers, hikers and general escape-artists.
These finger trainers are a side project — something fun we made for ourselves and started sharing around the climbing community.
If you like functional gear made by people who actually use it, you’re in the right place.
