VW Transporter T5/T6

iNSTALL PREP INFO

before you arrive

Prior to your install here at the farm, we want to make sure you have all the information available to complete the nessecary prep work.

please read through all the info below and if you have any questions please drop us an email.

we've split it up into sections depending on what extent of works your van is being treated to.

Please take the time to read through the below install prep for your specific van.

as a general rule of thumb we recommend battons first, sound deadening second, insulation, then carpet work last. this ensures best coverage and prep of all stages.

After you have completed this prep work we ask for some photos of your van so we can breif the intallers prior to your arrival on exactly what to expect.

If your van isn't quite ready please send images any way with a follow up email stating what works are going to be carried our prior to your arrival at the farm.

floor

If you are getting a floor installed by us, please follow these preparation guidelines:

To allow us to properly secure your floor, we need access to the standard D-rings in the floor. A SWB van has six of these, and an LWB van has eight.

We recommend laying 2mm Dodo Mat sound deadening wherever you prefer, followed by 7mm Dodo Mat Pro Liner adhesive insulation on top. You don’t need battens, as we bolt your floor down in a Transporter using the existing D-rings.

VW Kombi Owners:

  • If your Kombi has the soft floor, no preparation is required—phew for you! We bolt our floors directly over the top.

  • If your Kombi doesn’t have the soft floor and the seat brackets are exposed, please carpet from one side of the van to the other, spanning the brackets with a 100mm overlap at both the front and back. The areas immediately surrounding each bracket will be visible through the cut-outs in the floor, so ensure these areas are neat and tidy.

Areas of Note:

  • Sliding Door Step Trim: We generally fit our floors on top of these. However, raised mouldings are available, which we can fit over the top.

  • Rear Thresholds: Threshold designs vary:

    • Vans with a small central moulding: You can either carpet around this or leave it as bare metal—your choice.

    • Vans with larger thresholds: In a Kombi, we usually fit our floors on top of these, while in a panel van, we fit underneath them.

  • Front Section (Floor Meets the Cab): You may want to carpet 50–100mm here. Tuck the carpet under the front floor section and secure it with spray glue onto the floor or insulation. If you’re not installing one of our lower bulkheads, there might be a small visible gap here. Carpet tidies this up nicely.

Points to Note:

  • For your carpet work on the walls and wheel arches, extend the carpet approximately 50mm onto the floor. This additional coverage helps our fitting team.

  • When carpeting the rear light cluster pillars, you can either stop where they meet the floor or continue around and underneath the rear threshold trim, as shown in our example images.

Additional Information:

We’ve included images below showing examples of good preparation, as well as a van with a fully installed floor, walls, and ceiling to illustrate what is visible after installation.

See our image examples for the ideal prep work: sound deadening and insulation securely applied with the D-ring threaded holes exposed. We love seeing this kind of preparation!

roof

If you are having a ceiling installed by us, please read the following:

Our ceilings need a stopping point. To create a neat shadow gap between the wall panels and ceiling panels, we recommend extending your carpet work 150mm to 200mm from where the walls meet the ceiling.

Sound Deadening and Insulation:

We mount our ceiling panels directly to the rib structures of your van’s roof. All areas between these ribs can be sound deadened and insulated. However, your ceiling will be installed at the lower level of the ribs, so avoid packing excess insulation into these spaces. While not essential, you may also choose to carpet over the ribs for a clean and tidy finish.

Front Section (Cab Headliner):

The factory covering piece that connects your cab headliner to the roof rib will no longer be needed. We replace this with a beautifully crafted birch trim for a more polished look.

Wiring for Lights:

If you’re installing wiring for us to connect your new lights, please leave a long tail at the front of the ceiling and route the cables down the pillar where the seatbelt is located.

Examples and Guidance:

Check out our image examples for the ideal amount of prep work and to see installed ceilings. These images will help you understand what areas will remain exposed and how to achieve the best finish.

walls

If you are getting our walls fitted, please read this section about the prep work we ask from you before you arrive at the farm:

Sound Deadening and Insulation:

Sound deadening can be applied to all areas of the van’s outer skin. Insulation should be placed in all the open areas that will be beneath our wall panels.

Our walls are fitted to the rib structure of the van, so please ensure the inner areas are not overpacked. Do not insulate over the inner faces of the ribs—carpeting these areas is fine, but insulation is not.

Carpet:

There are areas of the walls that will remain visible after our panels are fitted, and these should be carpeted. These areas include:

  • B-pillars,

  • C-pillars,

  • Window surrounds,

  • Rear light cluster uprights,

  • Rear crossbeam above the rear doors.

For the sliding door, our panels are inset-style, so the outer shell of the door will remain visible. Some customers choose not to carpet sliding doors, but this is entirely up to you. The same applies to the back doors—most customers choose to sound deaden and insulate these areas without adding carpet. The main areas of the wall will be covered by our panels, so don’t worry if they’re not perfectly finished or look a bit uneven!

Doors:

For sound deadening and insulation, please focus on the inside top and lower sections. This applies to both barn doors and tailgate models.

Examples and Guidance:

Check out our image examples for the ideal prep work, as well as photos of vans fitted with our walls. These images will show you what areas are left exposed at the edges and how to achieve a tidy finish.
